Dr. Aaron Engels Pediatric Dentist
My greatest joy, as a pediatric dentist, is talking to and forming a bond with my patients. It is true that kids say the funniest things! I love hearing about their lives and seeing each grow up over the years: We get to hear about their first day of kindergarten, and the next thing you know they’re talking about their college plans!
I believe dentistry is my calling: to help each child develop the skills and knowledge to maintain their beautiful smiles for a lifetime. I am grateful to have the ability to relieve pain, to improve a child’s oral health, and to educate them about keeping their mouth clean and healthy. I also enjoy helping fearful or reluctant children overcome their fears and guiding them to feeling safe in our office. I want children to be excited to visit the dentist!
Education, Continuing Education, and Professional Affiliations
I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare and help people lead happier, healthier lives. In college, I explored several areas of healthcare and found my calling in pediatric dentistry.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in biology at the University of Texas at Austin and obtained my Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. I completed an advanced education in general dentistry residency through the United States Air Force. This was followed by a pediatric dentistry regency, and my certificate in pediatric dentistry, at Baylor College of Dentistry.
As a pediatric dentist, I am passionate about providing the best care possible for my patients, using the most up-to-date, proven methods available. I love to learn about new techniques and materials through continuing education (CE) classes, as well as reading dental journals. CE provides an opportunity to stay fresh on the latest advances while also providing opportunities to refresh topics I have not reviewed in a while. I regularly attend meetings to keep abreast of developments, trends, and research.
I am a member of the:
- American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
- Southwestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry
- Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
- American Dental Association
- Texas Dental Association
- Capital Area Dental Society
Beyond the Practice
I grew up in Denton, and have lived with my wife Sabrina, who is an occupational therapist, in Austin for more than a dozen years. We have a daughter, Evelyn, who loves cheer and volleyball, as well as two dogs, Buddy and Chewy. While family is my priority outside of work hours, I also enjoy outdoor activities: hiking, kayaking, fishing, and camping. I also like golfing, playing guitar, and listening to live music.
Feeling it is important to give back to the community, I have coached several seasons with Evelyn’s soccer team and am involved with our neighborhood cleanup days. I have also participated in several dental programs that provide free dental treatment to patients in need. Seeing the gratitude they show, and knowing I have made a difference in someone’s life, really fills my heart with joy.
